Rugby League Report – Round 10

  • Thursday Night Football

The Bulldogs were very determined to break that current losing streak.  They faced a side also determined to continue their winning form.  After 38 minutes it looked like the bulldogs try were on top.  They led 12 to 4 with plenty of time left to play.  Unfortunately for them they had one of their better players penalised and sent the sin bin for 10 minutes.  The Dolphins took advantage and scored two tries before halftime.  The momentum continued in the second half and they thrashed the Bulldogs winning 44 to 12.  Final Score: Dolphins 44 v Bulldogs 12

    Friday Night Football

The Roosters led by James Tedesco who scored 2 tries were far too good for the brave Titans.  The Roosters were never in danger of losing this match before their home ground fans.  Roosters scored 6 tries to 2 by the Titans.  Final Score: Roosters 28 v Titans 12

The second match between the Cowboys and the Parramatta Eels was a thriller.  Each team’ s attack out shone their defence.  At halftime the Cowboys led 12 to 10.  The Cowboys appeared at times to be set for a victory and were desperate to give their long-time forward Jason Taumalolo victory in the record game breaking 295 games.  The Eels led by Mitchell Moses and fellow Lebanese forward Jordan Samrani had their own motivation to win.  Samrani scored a try and set up a try for his fullback for the Eels to draw level at 30 points each.  The match went to extra time golden point.  The Eels had first crack at attempting a field goal and Mitchell Moses succeeded to win the match.  The referee gave the Eels a penalty for a late attack on Moses.  The Eels kicked the goal and won the match.

    Final Score: Eels 33 v Cowboys 30.

    Saturday Football

The Newcastle Knights commenced their clash with the Dragons in the same manner they played against the Rabbitohs.  They scored 4 tries before the Dragons who were able to counter the attack.  The Dragons task was hopeless and were unable to regroup and cause any danger.  The Knights kept on scoring and had a winning lead before half time. They scored first in the second half and held on to win 44 to 10.  In a team of stars, the Newcastle Knights fullback Kaylon Ponga stood out.  Final Score: Knights 44 v Dragons 10

The loss of Latrell Mitchell and other star players did not stop the Rabbitohs from defeating the Cronulla Sharks who were in top form.  The Rabbitohs defence on their tryline was first class until victory was assured.  Souths scored three tries in each half to lead 30 to nil before the Sharks crossed the line for two tries.  Souths finished the match with their 6th try.  All the rookies played their part in the victory.  The NRL champion try achievement (AJ) Alex Johnston added 3 tries to his record tally which is now 222.  Final Score: Rabbitohs 36 v Sharks 12

The Sea Eagles continued their form at the fortress Brookvale Oval when they defeated a depleted reigning premiers the Brisbane Broncos.  The Bronco’s attack was riddled with dropped balls.  The Sea Eagles attack was fast and crisp which the Broncos could not contain.  The caretaker coach Keiron Foran has now won 5 out of matches. The Manly Board should give him a contract for a long term.  Final Score: Manly 32 v Broncos 4

    Sunday Afternoon Football

The round commenced with 2 teams with a large losing streak.  A supporter will have to believe that the streak will end.  The Tigers had no such pleasure.  The Storm finally won.  They beat a very weaken Wests Tigers who tried hard but were no match for a very determined Storm side whose star State of Origin players finally found form.  While their coach showed no emotion at the win the players made up with plenty of joy.  Final Score: Storm 44 v Tigers 16

The second Sunday match was very even for a long time.  The Panthers and the Raiders matched each other as evidenced by the scoreboard at 6 all, 12 all, and 18 all.  Then the Panthers pounced and hit the Raiders where it hurt most for a team.  2 converted tries took them to a 30-point lead.  From there they were not going to lose the match despite the Raiders fans “clap”.  The final 20 minutes were very sloppy as both teams kept dropping the ball.

    Final Score: Panthers 30 v Raiders 18

    Lebanese Corner

Jordan Samrani made the Eels first 13 along side the Lebanese captain Mitchell Moses.  They combined late in the match scoring tries and assisting in the try that drew level with the Cowboys and finally a field goal by Moses gave the Eels a victory

Alex Twal was a tower of strength for the depleted West Tigers team who lost the match, but Alex can hold his head high.

Jason Kiraz and Adam Douehei did not play due to injuries.
